so i’m outside of my office smoking, people watching, chai latte sipping, trying to get my head around the fact i’m filming tonight, that i’ve handed in my notice last friday, that this big berlin move really really is happening in march, when a bus passes by with a big NHS ad. The add has a kind of tube line map of sorts on it, only, instead of tube stops it says
the pub ——-the club——–the gutter——a&e department
and tagline that reads "don’t let your night be your last" or something equally ridiculously melodramatic and fatal.
i furrow my eyebrows and take a long drag of my ciggarette and think,
"is this meant to deter me?"
and
"what would my *map* look like?"
maybe something like
the pub -
the bar -
the other bar-
the cocktail bar-

the search for sunglasses to block the blazing sunlight-

its funny what brings you to cities, sometimes its as simple as falling in love with the idea of a place, sometimes its work, more oftten than not its because of a person.
tel aviv was somewhere i had never considered, in part of the world i had never considered, but when a dear friend moved there i knew it would only be a matter of time. and that time came at new years just gone, and i am already keen to go back. contrary to what you may think it is also one of the safest cities i’ve ever been in. go figure…
i have been thinking for days as how best to describe that place, but for once the writer is stuck for words. and so i will express my experience there thus. and encourage you if you havn’t been, to go as soon as you can.
by way of closing i shall also say that out of all images from my trip, the one that is most poignant is the last one… (its not brilliant res, so you need to click on it to see the tattoo properly) something to do with me looking forward to this big bad year of yet more changes? or maybe just a beautiful tattoo?or maybe….?
its amazing who/what you find and learn when you travel…my advice for 2008 is to keep moving…
